Newcomer A.T.(avrohom tzvi) Friedman is just eighteen years old, and he is NOT entering the Jewish music world. He is doing something rather unique and original by entering the much smaller arena of chazanus. Yes, you heard right.
The world of chazanus you see is usually full of seasoned veteran cantors who have been doing this a long time. However, it is not very often that new young blood has entered the arena.
The young Friedman’s father is a beautiful baal tefila, and so are his brothers, though they were never formerly trained. A.T. is the first in his family to train.
Though he grew up listening to chazanus, at first he didn’t appreciate it. As he got older, he started to really love chazanus and today he actually LIVES chazanus. The world renowned Chazan Moshe Koussovitsky is one of his favorite cantors among other world renowned chazanim.
The piece of chazanus A.T. is releasing to the world is titled “Akavia Ben Mehalalel” with words from Pirkei Avos. The song is a classical piece of chazanus made famous by Chazan Moshe Koussovitsky. Friedman’s goal is to inspire more people, especially the younger generation to listen to chazanus and give it a chance, to connect to it on an emotional level deeper than the typical pop tunes out there.
Akavia is a perfect message to send out to the world during Elul, days before Rosh Hashanah.
The song is produced by the Yochi Briskman, who after meeting with the young chazan was impressed with his big yet mature sounding voice, together going through well-known cantorial pieces, until choosing the right piece. Under the tutelage of Briskman, A.T was able to deliver the perfect vocal performance to accompany the beautiful arrangement by Dr. Mordechai Sobol a”h that will capture the hearts of those who hear it.
So it is with the hope that all of us truly experience a great new year and the coming of Moshiach that we present A.T Friedman in his debut single and video Akavia.

אברהם (A.T.) פרידמן הצעיר, הוא רק בן 18, אך אין הוא נכנס כעת לעולם המוזיקה היהודית. הוא עושה משהו נדיר ומקורי בהרבה. אברהם נכנס באומץ רב אל זירת החזנות.
כן שמעתם נכון.
עולם החזנות רגיל למראה החזנים הותיקים והמנוסים המשתפכים בשירת קטעי חזנות במשך שנים רבות, עבר זמן רב מאז מיתרי קול צעירים כל כך, פרטו על צליליה.
אביו של פרידמן הצעיר הוא בעל תפילה מופלא והכישרון שרץ במשפחה לא פסח על אחיו של פרידמן גם כן, למרות שמעולם הם לא הוכשרו לכך באופן מקצועי. אברהם הוא הראשון מבין בני המשפחה שלומד את רזי המקצוע על בוריו.
למרות שגדל על חזנות, הוא לא התחבר אליה בצעירותו. רק כאשר החל להתבגר, גילה את תשוקתו אל עולם החזנות וכיום הוא ממש חי ונושם את צלילי הנשמה שלה. מלך החזנים הנודע, משה קוסוביצקי, הוא אחד מבין החזנים האהובים עליו ביותר, לצד שורת חזנים ידועים נוספים.
קטע הבכורה שמוציא אברהם פרידמן לאוויר העולם נקרא "עקביא בן מהללאל" מתוך פרקי אבות. השיר הוא קטע חזנות קלאסי שנוצר בידי משה קוסוביצקי. מטרתו של פרידמן היא לתת השראה לאנשים רבים, במיוחד מהדור הצעיר, להאזין לחזנות ולתת לה צ'אנס, להתחבר אל המימד הרגשי והעמוק שלה, הרבה מעבר לעוד מוזיקת פופ שגרתית וממוצעת.
"עקביא" הוא המסר המושלם לשגר בימים אלו של חודש אלול אל אוויר העולם. ימי ערב ראש השנה.
השיר הופק בידי המפיק העולמי הנודע יוחי בריסקמן, שלאחר שפגש את החזן הצעיר התרשם מקולו העוצמתי ומלא הרגש, יחד, האזינו לקטעי חזנות ידועים רבים עד שבחרו את היצירה המובחרת. תחת הדרכתו של בריסקמן, אברהם יכל לבצע את היצירה בצורה המושלמת ביותר, כשהוא מלווה בעיבודיו הנפלאים של ד"ר מרדכי סובול ז"ל שנוגעים בליבו של כל המאזין להם.
