WHY WE’RE SHARING THIS
We’re releasing this audio and video during Chanukah to share a message of Jewish pride, unity, and strength with the world.
In the wake of the tragic terrorist attack in Sydney, Australia on the first night of Chanukah, and in light of the ongoing pain and challenges facing the Jewish people since October 7th in Israel and Gaza, we stand firm and unafraid. The flame of our menorah — and of the Jewish people — will never be extinguished.
As shared in this story from Sydney: A mother named Sorela explained how her young children asked if they should turn off their menorah so terrorists wouldn’t know they were Jewish. In fear, the flame was briefly extinguished. When their Christian neighbors noticed and began crying, saying “the light is out — evil has won,” Sorela and her husband realized the truth. They relit the menorah and told their children: We will not hide. We will stand proud.
Just days later, under the chuppah on the fourth night of Chanukah, we say “She’asah nisim la’avoteinu” — remembering the miracles of the past and recognizing the miracles of today. Even in times of joy, we do not forget Jerusalem. Even at our happiest moments, we acknowledge the pain of exile and pray for Moshiach, for the rebuilding of the Beis Hamikdash, and for Hashem’s light to be revealed to the entire world.
Thank You, Hashem.
