In 1492, on Tisha B’Av, the Jews of Spain were expelled from the country they had lived in for generations. It was a moment filled with fear, uncertainty, and heartbreak. But the Abarbanel gave the Jewish people a message that still echoes today: we may be leaving Spain, but we are not leaving broken. We’re going to dance out of Spain with joy, because happiness is what Hashem wants from us.
This song, "Happiness," takes that powerful perspective and brings it into today’s world. Even when life feels heavy and the world feels upside down, at our core we refuse to let go of joy. Not because everything is easy, but because our spirit is stronger than the darkness around us.
